There Are Many Ways to Help

Not every volunteer needs to become a Pack leader.

Our Pack needs parents and guardians who can help with specific projects, events, communications, fundraising, photography, research, and all the little things that make Scouting run smoothly.

Some opportunities are ongoing, while others are seasonal or may only require a few hours at a particular event.

If you can help a little, you’re helping a lot!

Photography & Memories

Den Photographer

The Den Photographer helps capture the fun and activities happening during den meetings and events.

Responsibilities include:

• Taking approximately 5–10 photos during most meetings and events
• Capturing a variety of Scouts and activities
• Submitting photos to the Social Media Coordinator
• Following Pack and BSA guidance regarding photography and permissions

All parents are welcome to take and submit photos. The Den Photographer simply helps make sure we consistently have photos to share.

Outing Photographer

The Outing Photographer helps document camping trips, outings, and special events.

Responsibilities include:

• Taking photos during Pack outings and camping trips
• Capturing Scouts participating in activities
• Submitting photos to the Social Media Coordinator
• Helping preserve memories that families can look back on

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys photography but does not want to take on a formal leadership role.

Fundraising Opportunities

Fundraising Coordinator & Assistant

The Fundraising Coordinator helps organize the Pack’s fundraising efforts and supports the volunteers who lead individual fundraisers.

The coordinator works closely with the Popcorn Kernel and Wreath Wrangler.

Responsibilities include:

• Supporting fundraising events
• Helping distribute responsibilities among volunteers
• Recruiting additional help when needed
• Helping coordinate additional fundraising opportunities throughout the year
• Supporting the Popcorn Kernel and Wreath Wrangler when their workload increases

The goal is to make sure fundraising does not fall entirely on one person.

Popcorn Kernel

The Popcorn Kernel coordinates the Pack’s annual popcorn fundraiser.

The season generally begins in July with:

• Training
• Picking up materials
• Website registration
• Securing booth locations

Preparation may require approximately 2–10 hours during July.

Sales typically begin in August and continue through October or November. This is a significant fundraiser and requires a volunteer who can commit several weekend days during the season for product pickup and booth sales.

The Popcorn Kernel can ask the Fundraising Coordinator and Pack volunteer pool for additional help when needed.

Wreath Wrangler

The Wreath Wrangler coordinates the Pack’s annual wreath fundraiser.

The season generally begins in July with ordering forms and brochures for door-to-door sales.

Responsibilities include:

• Preparing materials for families
• Coordinating sales
• Picking up wreaths
• Separating orders by Scout
• Coordinating parent pickup

The fundraiser typically runs from August through October or November.

Event Volunteer Opportunities

Pinewood Derby Crew

The Pinewood Derby Crew supports the Pit Boss with the Pack’s annual Pinewood Derby.

Volunteers may help with:

• Event setup
• Car check-in
• Activities for Scouts
• Snacks
• Race-day logistics
• Cleanup
• Other event needs

You do not have to know anything about Pinewood Derby cars to help.

Raingutter Regatta Crew

The Raingutter Regatta Crew supports the Regatta Captain with the Pack’s annual boat race.

Volunteers may help with:

• Event setup
• Activities for Scouts
• Snacks
• Race-day logistics
• Keeping Scouts engaged while they wait
• Cleanup
• Other event needs

This is a great way to help with a single event without taking on an ongoing leadership position.

General Event Volunteers

Many Pack events need extra hands for just a few hours.

Volunteer opportunities may include:

• Setting up tables and equipment
• Helping with activities
• Serving or organizing snacks
• Checking in families
• Helping Scouts move between activities
• Taking photos
• Cleaning up
• Providing supplies
• Helping with transportation or logistics when appropriate

Sometimes the most valuable volunteer is simply the person who says:

“What can I do?”

Communications

Social Media Coordinator

The Social Media Coordinator manages the Pack’s Facebook page and helps families and the community see what our Scouts are doing.

Responsibilities include:

• Creating and scheduling relevant Scouting-themed posts
• Highlighting Scouting activities and milestones
• Creating Facebook events for Pack activities and community events
• Sharing photos submitted by parents and volunteers
• Highlighting den meetings, camping trips, service projects, and other activities
• Keeping communications welcoming and inclusive of families from different backgrounds and traditions

Parents and volunteers can help by submitting photos and information about activities.

Webmaster & Assistant

The Webmaster keeps the Pack website current, useful, and engaging.

Responsibilities include:

• Updating the website with current Pack information
• Adding upcoming events and important dates
• Removing outdated information
• Posting resources for families
• Keeping the site easy to navigate
• Helping families find the information they need

The Assistant Webmaster provides backup and learns the role so website responsibilities can be shared.

What If I Don’t Have Much Time?

That’s okay!

You don’t have to commit to a year-long position to be an important part of the Pack.

You can:

• Help at one event
• Volunteer for a seasonal fundraiser
• Take photos at a den meeting
• Help with setup or cleanup
• Bring snacks
• Share a skill or hobby
• Help research an outing
• Join the volunteer pool and respond when you are available

Every hour you give helps another volunteer spend more time with their Scout.
