Understanding Pack Leadership
New to Scouting? You don’t need to understand the entire Pack structure before getting involved.
The Pack is led by a team of volunteers who each have different responsibilities. Some focus on the overall direction of the Pack, some manage the Pack’s administrative needs, and others focus on delivering the Scouting program.
No single person is expected to do everything. A strong Pack works because leaders communicate, share responsibilities, and support one another.
Pack Leadership

| Chartered Organization Representative | Connects the Pack with its chartered organization and helps support the relationship between the organization and Scouting. |
| Pack Committee Chair | Coordinates Pack leadership, volunteers, administration, planning, records, and overall Pack operations. |
| Cubmaster | Leads the Pack’s Scouting program, Pack meetings, activities, and overall Scout experience. |
| Unit Commissioner | Advises the Unit Key 3, helps with problem-solving, and connects the Pack with district and council resources. |
Pack Committee & Administration

| Pack Treasurer | Manages Pack finances, tracks income and expenses, maintains financial records, and provides financial updates. |
| Advancement Chair | Tracks Scout advancement, manages awards and badges, and helps coordinate advancement recognition and ceremonies. |
| Pack Secretary | Takes Committee meeting notes, distributes information, and helps maintain Pack records. |
| Special Needs Coordinator | Helps families identify resources and accommodations and promotes an inclusive Scouting experience. |
| Financial Aid Coordinator | Helps families find uniform and financial assistance resources and maintains the uniform donation closet. |
| Pack Trainer | Tracks required training, helps leaders stay current, and communicates upcoming training opportunities. |
Membership & Recruitment

| New Member Coordinator | Welcomes newly registered families, helps them get connected, and answers questions as they get started. |
| School Liaison | Monitors a specific school’s calendar, identifies recruitment opportunities, and helps connect the Pack with school communities. |
| Recruitment Coordinator | Organizes recruitment efforts, attends recruitment events, maintains supplies, and follows up with prospective families. |
Den & Scout Program
These volunteers work directly with Scouts and help deliver the Scouting program.

| Den Leader | Leads a den, plans meetings and activities, and helps Scouts complete their program. |
| Den Chief | A Scouts BSA youth leader who helps support Bear, Webelos, and AOL dens under the guidance of the Den Leader. |
| Den Chief Coordinator | Connects dens with Scouts BSA youth who can serve as Den Chiefs and coordinates communication and attendance. |
| BALOO-Trained Adult | Provides trained adult leadership for Pack camping trips and helps support safe outdoor experiences. |
Events & Special Activities

| Raingutter Regatta Captain | Coordinates the Regatta, manages boat-kit inventory, rules, awards, volunteers, and event logistics. |

| Outings & Events Researcher | Researches locations and activities for den meetings, Pack meetings, service projects, camping, and special events. |

Communications & Memories

| Den Photographer | Takes photos during den meetings and activities and submits them for Pack communications. |
Fundraising

| Wreath Wrangler | Coordinates the annual wreath fundraiser, including materials, orders, pickup, sorting, and family distribution. |
| Popcorn Kernel | Coordinates the Pack’s annual popcorn fundraiser, including training, materials, booths, product, and sales. |

Leadership Is a Team Effort
A strong Pack does not depend on one person doing everything.
The Unit Key 3 provides the core leadership. The Pack Committee provides administrative and organizational support. Other key leaders provide expertise in areas such as advancement, membership, training, finances, and family support.
Many positions also have an assistant role. An assistant is not simply a backup. They are someone who can learn the role, share the workload, and help create continuity for the Pack.
The more people who share the work, the stronger—and more sustainable—our Pack becomes.
If you are interested in taking on a leadership role, you do not need to know everything about Scouting before you begin. Experienced volunteers are here to help you learn.
